In the lava pit on Gran Canaria, high-quality lava (picon) has been mined for decades.
Since May 2022, the company DTR CALAVA SL has been responsible for the preparation and processing
Substrate raw materials and filter materials for export to the mainland.
The domestic construction industry is also supplied.
Volcanic raw materials
This raw material deposit offers excellent physical properties for substrate and filter material production. The lava has a high volume of air voids and thus a very large surface with high grain strength.
Due to the low bulk density, it can be used as a substrate raw material or as a lightweight aggregate for the concrete industry.
Production
Thanks to the know-how in production and processing technology accumulated over decades, DTR-Calava SL is able to produce high-quality products for the substrate and construction industry from the lava raw materials.
Logistics
DTR-Calava SL is able to carry out complete shiploads (3000 to - 8000 tons) from the Canary Islands to the mainland. Despite the distance, the material is many times more environmentally friendly than artificially expanded building materials. Equally important is the reliable and long-term secured supply.
